EP195 - Rewire Your Trauma Before It Repeats with Laurel Wiers

In this episode of The Tyler Dickerhoof Show, host Tyler Dickerhoof sits down with Laurel Weirs, a licensed marriage and family therapist with over 24 years of experience. Laurel has developed a unique method, MINT (Memory Integration and Neutralization Technique), that helps people rewire the way they respond to trauma.

They break down why some behaviors seem impossible to change, how childhood memories shape adult relationships, and the brain science behind rewriting painful experiences. Tyler also shares his own struggles with intensity and how trauma responses show up in leadership, parenting, and personal growth.

If you've ever wondered why certain things trigger you—or how to break free from them—this episode will change the way you see your past and your future.

Meet Laurel Weirs

Laurel wasn’t supposed to be an expert in triggers and trauma, or even the one training others to treat it. After successfully avoiding clients with this diagnosis for 15 years, she was the last person to be talking about having success in treating this group of people. However, after being trained in a therapeutic modality that makes use of the science behind memory reconsolidation, everything changed. After experiencing so much success with her clients, she went on to be a national trainer to teach other clinicians how to treat trauma as well. Her mission is to help others eliminate trauma and triggers with ease. She does this with athletes, first responders, elite business performers and her clients. She uses her skills to treat the range of triggers from people with PTSD to those who just want freedom from images and words that replay in their mind, inhibiting performance and holding them back from leveling up. Her message is clear: everyone performs better when triggers are eliminated.

Laurel is a licensed marriage and family therapist and has been practicing for over 24 years. She is Master Certified in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) as well as a former national trainer in ART. She is also trained in EMDR and a consultant and collaborator for Critical Memory Integration (CMI). She consults for universities as well as provides continuing education for hospitals and non-clinical agencies. She is the author of Betrayed, not Broken (Morgan James, 2015) and has been featured in the Chicago Tribune, Military Life magazine, Newsweek and a contributor to Successful Living & Successful Marriage. She works with first responders, veterans, athletes, high performers and organizations seeking to cultivate trauma-informed environments. She is the founder of Optimal Outcome.
